After the cancellation in 2020 due to Corona, there will be a new edition of the International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen in the subjects horn and tuba this year. The organisers are delighted to note that there is a great deal of international interest among young musicians in the high-calibre competition in the Vogtland town of music.

A total of 89 applications had been received by the closing date for horn applications on 10 January 2022. Although this is not quite as many as two years ago, the competition has once again increased in terms of internationality. The young horn players come from 30 different countries spread over five continents - the field of applicants in this subject has never been so international in Markneukirchen.

All 89 applicants aged between 16 and 31 were admitted directly to the competition without pre-selection and are now cordially invited to present their skills in the four public competition rounds from 5 to 14 May 2022. As in 2020, applications from Germany form the largest group with 20 entries, followed by Portugal (8) and Italy, Japan and South Korea (5 each). New countries in this category are Ireland and Mexico. The deadline for applications for the tuba is 31 January.
