2021 violin - double bass postponed to 2023

The Corona pandemic is still going on and as a result there are restrictions on international travel, the holding of events and meetings of people. In view of that special situation the members of the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition Association have decided with great regret to postpone the competition planned for the period from 6 to 15 May 2021 until 2023.

The members expect that there could probably still be restrictions on international travel in May, which would lead to the exclusion of a majority of the jurors and participants. In particular, the hopes of the 191 registered candidates from 41 countries that the competition will be held will not be fulfilled. In the end, however, the digital forms of competition tested as an alternative to the face-to-face event could not fulfil the expectations of a consistently high level of the competition, equal conditions for all participants, fair and objective evaluation and a link to regional musical instrument making and sponsors.

Already now, a warm invitation is extended to young musicians from all over the world to participate in the two upcoming competitions:
5-14 May 2022: Horn - Tuba
4-13 May 2023: Violin - Double Bass

2021 competition more international than ever before

(cs) The field of applicants for the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition in the categories violin and double bass is more international than ever before in the 56-year history of the top-class competition in the Vogtland town of music. 191 young musicians from a total of 41 countries submitted their applications to take part, including 90 in the violin section and 101 in the double bass section. The latter is also a record for this subject. Once again, young musicians from Germany (36) are particularly well represented, followed by South Korea (25) and Japan (19).
